William L. Hixson, Jr., age 61, of Stillwater, died on Monday afternoon, July 29, 2013 at his residence following a brief illness.
Bill was born on Sunday, April 27, 1952 in Berwick, a son of William L. Hixson, Sr., of Berwick, and the late Mary (Lawson) Hixson. Throughout his younger years, he attended the Berwick Area School, and completed his education as a member of the first ever graduating class of the Columbia-Montour Vocational-Technical School. On March 20, 1971, Bill married his beloved wife of 42 years, Debra (Augustine) Hixson. Immediately following graduation, Bill enlisted with the United States Marine Corps where he served his country faithfully during the Vietnam War. On February 10, 1976, Bill was honorably discharged as Sergeant from his time of dedicated service.
For over 35 years, Bill was the owner and operator of Hixson Contracting which helped produce many large buildings for area schools and churches. Most recently, he was employed by HRI, Inc. of Bloomsburg. He was a member of the Knapp Lodge F&AM in Berwick and also a 28 year member of the Ridge Runners Hunting Club in Shickshinny.
In addition to his father and wife, Debra, Bill is survived by a son: William L. Hixson, III and wife, Suzanne, of Berwick; three daughters: Rachel Simpson and husband (Terry) of Berwick; Wendy Young and husband, John, of Nescopeck; and Miranda DiLena and husband, Steven, of Punta Gorda, FL; four grandchildren: Tad Young, Ashley Peters, Maggie Young and Chelsey Simpson; and also by a sister: Nancy Hixson of Berwick. Bill was preceded in death by a sister in infancy, Joanne.
In accordance with Bill's wishes, there will be no public services at this time. The Hixson family is being assisted by the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 107 West Main at Railroad Street, Millville.
