Obituary

Warren C. Nelson was born November 20, 1944, in Brooklyn, NY. He passed away October 8, 2025, in Berwick. He resided in Millville for 33 years. Warren was a veteran, serving in South Korea, 1964-1966, as a military police officer with the 728 MP Battalion. After his tour, he returned to Copiague, NY to propose to his high school sweetheart, Rosella (Sweeney). They married the next year on September 23,1967.

Warren continued his law enforcement career. He gained his associate degree from SUNY at Farmingdale. He joined Nassau County Police Department, where he worked for 23 years, becoming their crime analyst. Warren worked hard, sometimes 3 jobs, to take care of his family. His family adored him and his stories.

Warren moved his family to St. James, NY in 1977. He always said this was his favorite part of his life journey. After his retirement from Nassau County, he and Rosella settled into a farmette in Millville, as living in the country was his dream. They had horses and a goat. Warren returned to his career after his son reminded him painting his garden tools was not a full-time job. He worked in Catawissa as a police officer. He then began work in Benton, PA and became police chief. He retired in 2006. Warren was happiest spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He looked forward to his weekly phone calls with his niece, Elizabeth Tiefenwerth (Cosgrove). He enjoyed a perfect Guinness, old westerns, gardening, soccer, and trying new places for dinner with his daughter, Colleen. Warren enjoyed spending time with his son and daughter-in-law, always eager to hear about his grandchildren's experiences, sports, and school.

Warren is preceded in death by his wife, Rosella (Sweeney) Nelson, his parents, Charles and Constance (Gade) Nelson, his grandson, Matthew Liam Nelson Yogmas, his best friend, Jim Cosgrove, multiple loved in-laws, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Warren is survived by his children: Colleen Nelson and John Nelson and wife Danialle, grandchildren, Riley Rose Nelson, Shamus Warren Danial Nelson; siblings: Diane Wolfe, Virginia Serino Openshaw and husband Tom, Debra Lalima and husband Nick, Gregory Nelson and wife Lisa, his godchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and many friends.

Warren was always down for a joke, a prank, or a story. He loved to make everyone around him smile. Warren will be remembered for his fairness, kindness, love, and laughter. Truly Warren was the best father.
