Obituary

Walter Scott McLean, age 68, of Danville, died on Saturday morning, October 19, 2013 a patient of Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Scott had been a resident of Danville for over 17 years.
Scott was born on Wednesday, June 20, 1945, in Wilson, North Carolina, a son of the late Cyril Sanford McLean and Margaret Josephine "Josey" Lane. In 1964, Scott completed his high school education after graduating from the Wendell High School. Immediately following his high school education, Scott attended classes at the Louisburg College in Louisburg, North Carolina. During his college education in 1964, Scott enlisted with the United States Air Force where he served his country faithfully during the Vietnam War as an aircraft mechanic and technician. On August 20, 1968, Scott was honorably discharge from his time of dedicated service to his country as a United States Air Force Sergeant. On January 28, 1989, Scott married his loving wife, the former Carol Lahoda.
For over 20 years, Scott was employed as a coordinator of engineering by the Newport News Ship Builders in New Port News, Virginia. Scott was a dedicated member of the Danville American Legion Post #40 and the Danville VFW Post #298. Scott loved spending time woodworking as well as challenging his mind with Calculus exercises.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 24 years, Carol (Lahoda) McLean; four children: Rebecca McLean of Newport News, VA; Tim McLean and wife, Emily, of Smithfield, VA; Nick McLean of Dallas, TX; and Sarah McLean of Danville; four grandchildren; a brother: Joe McLean of Raleigh, NC; and also a sister: Jean Hocutt and husband, Danny, of Wendell, NC.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, October 25, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 107 W. Main and Railroad St., Millville.
Funeral Services will also begin on Friday, October 25 at 11 a.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., Millville with Rev. Greg Molter of the St. Paul's Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Danville, officiating. Graveside services with full Military Honors will immediately follow in the Indiantown Gap National Veterans Cemetery.
