Walter Breitenmoser, age 95, of West Twelfth Street in Bloomsburg, died Sunday morning, May 8, 2011 surrounded by family at his home under the care of Columbia Montour Home Hospice. He was a resident of his home in Bloomsburg for over 34 years. Walter had been failing in health for the past four years.
Walter was born on Tuesday, September 21, 1915 in Azmoos, Switzerland, a son of the late Joseph and Maria (Mueller) Breitenmoser. He graduated from High School and also attended college for two years while living in Switzerland. He served during World War II with the Swiss Army. Prior to coming to America, he worked in Spain from 1938 to 1951. After arriving in Bloomsburg in 1951, he was employed by Bloomsburg Mills as a Textile Designer in the Research and Development Department until he retired in 1983. He was a member of the Bloomsburg American Legion Post #273, the Ft. McClure Post #804 VFW, the Bloomsburg Moose L.O.O.M #623, and also the Bloomsburg Elks Lodge #436 B.P.O.E.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ingred (Heydrich) Breitenmoser, on July 27, 2002; a brother: Joseph Breitenmoser; four sisters: Ida Schlatter, Mary Klatt, Anny Hanselmann and Lena Sulser.
Survivors include a step-son: Alfred "Fred" Kramer of Bloomsburg; two step-daughters: Mary Ann Welsh, widow of the late Lewis Welsh, of Bloomsburg; and Barbara Kramer and husband, Daniel Rice, of Point Rock, MD; three step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren
