Obituary

Virgie L. Mankoski, a resident of E. Tenth Street, Bloomsburg for over 68 years died on Monday, February 20, 2012 under the care of Columbia Montour Home Hospice at Maria Hall, Danville. Virgie celebrated her 92nd Birthday with her family this past Sunday afternoon in Danville.
Virgie was born on Thursday, February 19, 1920 in Central, PA, a daughter of the late Harry and Mary (Temple) Hess. Throughout her earlier years, she attended schools in the Grassmere area in Columbia County. In 1982, she retired as a 25 year employee of the Bloomsburg Silk Mill and was also employed for 13 years at the Barnold Silk Mill in Bloomsburg. She was a devoted member of the St. Columba Catholic Parish in Bloomsburg.
On December 26, 2005, she was preceded by her beloved husband, Stephen R. Mankoski, Sr. Also preceding her in death were two brothers: Freeman and Mickey Hess; and in addition to two sisters: May Saxer and Erma Benjamin.
Survivors include a daughter: Mary Moyes and husband, Herbert, of Pocono Lake; two sons: Harry Mankoski and wife, Clara, of Berwick, and Stephen R. Mankoski, Jr. and wife, Barbara, of Bloomsburg; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; as well as two sisters: Dorothy Wolford of Benton and Alice Marconi and husband, Mac, of Bloomsburg.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday morning, February 23 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the St. Columba Catholic Church, Third and Iron Streets, Bloomsburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 23 at 11 a.m. in the St. Columba Catholic Church, Bloomsburg with Monsignor Robert E. Lawrence, celebrant. Graveside services will follow in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
