Obituary
Verona M. (Smith) Oman, age 101, a resident of Bloomsburg for over 80 years, died on Sunday afternoon, June 7, 2015 a patient of the Geisinger-Bloomsburg Hospital.
Verona was born on June 20, 1913 in Talmar, a daughter of the late James M. and Pearl (Davis) Smith. Throughout her younger years, she attended the Mount Grove area school. Shortly after completing her education, Verona married her loving husband, Bruce G. Oman, and moved to the Bloomsburg area. In addition to raising her daughter and caring for her family, Verona was employed for many by local area mills such as the former Baronal Clothing Factory, the R&G Silk Mill and also the Bloomsburg Mills and never fully retired until 1979. Verona was currently the oldest living member of the Shiloh Bible Church in Almedia. She was a very devoted member, and taught Sunday school classes, assisted in Vacation Bible School and also cooked in the church's kitchen for many events.
In addition to her parents, Verona was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Bruce G. Oman, who passed on October 19, 1988. She was also preceded by two brothers: Harry and Melvin Smith; and also by two sisters: Ella Mottern and Maude Lord, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors include her only daughter: Jolene Kline and husband, James, of Almedia; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday morning, June 12 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Shiloh Bible Church, 123 Church Street (Almedia) in Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will begin on Friday morning, June 12 at 11 a.m. at the Shiloh Bible Church, 123 Church St. (Almedia), with her pastor, Rev. Dr. Douglas H. Lyon, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in Lime Ridge. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Oman and Kline families.
