Verna A. Hower, age 79, of Bloomsburg, passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2020, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Verna was a resident of her home in Bloomsburg for over 58 years.

She was born on Saturday, November 22, 1941 in Pine Grove, a daughter of the late Harry and Mabel (Merrell) Mars. Verna graduated from the Pine Grove Area High School in 1959. On May 26, 1962, Verna married her loving husband, Donald E. Hower. She was a member of the Bloomsburg Christian Church. Verna was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed reading, quilting, and knitting. She and her husband spent a lot of time camping in Poe Paddy State Park, with family and friends. Verna enjoyed day trips with friends, watching her grandson play soccer, spending time at the beach, and volunteering at her church. Verna was always ready to help a friend, try a new adventure, and pick up the phone to chat with loved ones. She was also a member of the church groups, Jars of Clay, and Friendship Meals, the YMCA, Silver Sneakers, and The Knit Wits knitting group.

In addition to her parents, Verna was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard Mars.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 58 years, Donald E. Hower; two daughters, Judy A. wife of Russell Zemanek of Enola, Sarah J. wife of Lyle Klingaman of Bloomsburg, a grandson, Grant Zemanek of Enola, four sisters, Trena Cannell of Nevada, IA, LaVerne wife of Ernest McGrath of Bloomington, IL, E. Jane wife of David J. Schneck of Zionsville, and Delphine wife of David R. Batz of Reading.

Funeral services for Verna will be announced at a future date. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Streets, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Hower family.
