Verna L. Evans, age 94, died on Monday, March 15, 2010 at Balanced Care of Bloomsburg where she had been a resident for the last five years. Prior to moving to Balanced Care, Verna had resided at 76 Red Mill Road for sixty years. Verna was born September 20, 1915 in Catawissa Township (Esther Furnace), the daughter of the late Bertrum and Christianna (Zimmerman) Johnson. She attended Cleveland Township School. Verna was a member of St. Columba Catholic Parish, Bloomsburg. Verna was preceded in death by her husband, Clark Evans in 1990 and by nine siblings: John Johnson, Arlene Fest, Emmanuel Johnson, Florence Ernest, Ada Leiby, Fronie Snyder, McLeta Snyder, Sherman Johnson and Munroe Johnson. Survivors include two sons: Raymond W. Evans and his wife, Sandy, Milton and Kevin L. Evans and his wife, Ann, Orangeville; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a step-daughter: Eva Marie Spahr, Halifax and two brothers: Marshall Johnson, Bloomsburg and Doyle Johnson, Missouri. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, March 19, 2010 at 3 P.M. from St. Columba Catholic Church, 342 Iron St., Bloomsburg with Rev. Paul R. Fisher as celebrant. Friends will be received at the church from 2 P.M. until time of mass. Interment will be in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. The family is being assisted by the Allen Funeral Home, 745 Market at Eighth St., Bloomsburg.
