Obituary

Thomas Tyahla, age 79, of McGuire Park Drive, Bloomsburg died on Friday, February 17, 2012, a patient of the Bloomsburg Hospital. Thomas has been a resident of his home in Bloomsburg for over 31 years.
Thomas was born on Tuesday, July 19, 1932 in Coaldale, PA a son of the late Wash and Mary (Puschock) Tyahla. He was a member of the 1950 Graduating Class of the Nesquehoning High School and later furthered his education at the Spring Garden Institute in Philadelphia. He served in the Armed Forces following the Korean War in the United States Navy.
Throughout his early working career, he was the owner and operator of the Getty Service Station in Philadelphia and was also the owner of Midas Muffler in Bloomsburg until retiring in the year 2000. He was also a devoted member of the St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Bloomsburg. He was always proud of being the first of three generations to achieve the status of Eagle Scout in addition to his son and grandson.
Preceding him in death were four brothers: Wash, Jr. and Eugene Tyahla and also two infant brothers.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 57 years, Lois A. (Rhodes) Tyahla, having been married on November 6, 1954. Also surviving are three children: Ronald T. Tyahla and wife, Cheryl, of Quakertown; Kathryn L. Tyahla of Hollywood, FL; and Mark A. Tyahla and wife, Marcia, of South Lyon, MI; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; as well as a sister: Elizabeth Higgins and husband, Steve, of Nesquehoning.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, February 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 21 at 11 a.m. from the St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 123 N. Market Street, Bloomsburg with Rev. Joel L. Zeiders, officiating.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday following services and the luncheon in the Sky-View Memorial Park, 108 Lafayette Ave., Tamaqua, PA 18252 at 2 p.m.
