Thomas A. Roberts, age 92, of Catawissa, passed away on Monday morning, November 18, 2024, a patient of the Grandview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Danville. Thomas was a resident of his home in Catawissa for over 32 years.
Thomas was born on Tuesday, January 26, 1932 in Catawissa, a son of the late James H. and Marqueen (Sterner) Roberts. He graduated from the Catawissa High School in 1949. He expanded his education by graduating from East Stroudsburg University in 1954, and Bridgeport University with a master's degree in education. Thomas enlisted in the United States Army on March 3, 1954 and was honorably discharged on March 2, 1956. On March 15, 1954, Thomas married his loving wife, Sarah W. (Watts) Roberts who preceded him in death on February 7, 2018. For over 28 years, he was employed by the Newtown Public School District, Newtown CT as a physical education teacher until his retirement in 1989. Thomas was the high school swim coach for many years including the 75' and 76' perfect swim season. He was a member of the Catawissa First United Methodist Church. Thomas enjoyed spending his time building model airplanes, gardening, playing golf and was a lifelong New York Yankees fan.
In addition to his parents and wife, Thomas was also preceded in death by his brother, James Roberts, his sister-in-law, Jean Roberts, and his nephew, James "Robbie" Roberts.
Survivors include his two beloved children: Lori A. Roberts and companion, Richard Riley of Catawissa, Juli R. Beck and husband Richard of Stokesdale, NC; five grandchildren: Daniel Beck and wife Millie of San Antonio, TX, Andrew Beck and wife Ally of Orange, CT, James Kopchak and wife Erin of Turbotville, Melissa Grey and husband David of Milford, CT; four great-grandchildren: Lowen Beck of Orange, CT, Peyton Beck of Orange, CT, Lennon Grey of Milford, CT, and Lilly Kopchak of Turbotville; two nephews: Jay Roberts and wife Olga of Catawissa, Jeffrey Roberts of Catawissa.
Funeral Services will begin on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Catawissa First United Methodist Church, 228 South St., Catawissa, PA with Rev. Susan Knorr, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the Millville Cemetery. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Roberts family.
