Thomas J. Evans, Jr., age 79, of Bloomsburg, passed away on Friday evening, October 24, 2025, a patient of the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He was a lifelong resident of Bloomsburg.
Tom was born on Friday, September 13, 1946 in Danville, a son of the late Thomas J. and Charlotte (Werkeiser) Evans. He graduated from the Bloomsburg High School in 1964. Tom expanded his education by attending West Virginia University, 1968, and graduated with a bachelor's degree. He then enlisted in the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War, from October 14, 1968 and being honorably discharged on September 1, 1970. On May 1, 1976, Tom married his loving wife, the former Jane C. Crouse who preceded him in death on May 6, 2021. For many years, he was employed by Bloomsburg Bank Columbia Trust as a loan officer until his retirement in 2024.
Tom was a member of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Bloomsburg. He was also a member of the Town Council of Bloomsburg, Chair of the Bloomsburg Municipality Authority, Rosemont Cemetery Board serving as Vice President, Co-Chair of Social Equity Committee, Elks Lodge 436 and American Legion Post 273. Tom was an avid golfer and loved growing vegetables in his garden. He also owned a horse and enjoyed horse racing, as well as coaching little league.
In addition to his parents and wife, Tom was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Francois Van Remoortere.
Survivors include his beloved sister, Jane E. Van Remoortere of Bethesda, MD; two nephews and a niece, David, Pieter and Kier.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 101 East Main Street, Bloomsburg.
Requiem Eucharist Services will begin on Thursday, November 6, 2025 at 11:00 am at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, with Rev. Allison J. Carnahan and Deacon James Jenkins, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in New Rosemont Cemetery, Bloomsburg. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Evans family.
