Theresa Kathleen Chayko, 81, of Danville, died on July 30, 2022, following a long illness, surrounded by her loved ones at home. Born in Urbana, IL, on November 12, 1940, she resided in Champaign, IL, Perth Amboy, NJ, and Woodbridge, NJ, prior to moving to Danville in 2008.
She was an office manager for Sethness Caramel Color, Avenel, NJ, retiring in 2005, while serving as the music director for Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Perth Amboy, NJ for thirty years, and most recently gave private voice and piano lessons to many children and adults locally. She was also the organist for St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Danville, and sang with the Music Ministry at her parish, St. Columba Catholic Church in Bloomsburg.
Theresa shared her love of music through a lifetime of participation in choirs, concert bands, musicals, and family singalongs. She loved nothing more than to cook and bake (especially pies!) for her family and friends, and her home, like her heart, was a place of special warmth.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Chayko; her father and mother, Anthony and Alice Schneider; and her siblings Camilla Peddycoart, Earl Schneider, Bernard Schneider, Patricia Cook, and Karen Porter.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Chayko and Glenn Crooks of East Brunswick, NJ, and Catherine Chayko and Scott Douglas Petry of Danville, a son and daughter-in-law, John Chayko and Claudia Scotti of Flemington, NJ, six grandchildren, who called her "Oma": Ryan Lizotte, Morgan Crooks, Alexander Chayko, Joshua Chayko, Joseph Wassmer, and Marianna Amarante, who, with her husband Phillip, gave Oma two great-grandchildren, Daniel and Matthew Amarante; dozens of nieces and nephews; and her beloved brother-in-law, David Porter, Milwaukee, WI.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg. Friends and family will also be received on Thursday, August 4, 2022, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at St. Columba Catholic Church, 342 Iron St., Bloomsburg.

Graveside committal services will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2022, at 11:00 am in Saint Nicholas Cemetery, 679 Florida Grove Road, Perth Amboy, NJ, with family friend, Fr. Glenn Comandini, officiating. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Chayko family.
