Obituary

Theodore M. Shanoski, Ed.D., age 79, of Bloomsburg, died on Sunday morning, April 29, 2012 at his residence.
Ted was born on Wednesday, December 7, 1932 in Moosic, a son of the late Michael and Mary (Vetz) Shanoski. After graduating from high school, Ted received a B.S. degree in Social Studies from East Stroudsburg University, a M.S. degree in History from Ohio University and also an Ed.D. Degree in History and Education from Temple University. For over 32 years, he was employed as a Professor of History at Bloomsburg University until retiring in 1996. While employed at Bloomsburg University, he developed the Curriculum Materials Center and the Celebrity Artist Series.
Prior to his employment at Bloomsburg University, he taught for five years at Bristol Township High School and for three years at Neshaminy High School. While teaching at Bloomsburg University, he was a recipient of Study Grants to Israel, Japan and Russia and received a National Endowment for the Humanities Grant. He was a member of many professional organizations. Ted was especially dedicated to Kappa Delta Pi, the International Honor Society in Education. After being initiated in 1953, he served as Chapter Counselor at Bloomsburg University for 47 years. He was a member of the St. Columba Catholic Parish.
Ted was preceded in death by a son Michael P. Shanoski and by seven siblings: Walter Shanoski, Victoria Flowers, John Shanoski, Florence Stravinski, Carl Shanoski, Rev. Edmund Shanoski and Henry Boyarski.
He is survived by his beloved wife of over 32 years, Lorraine (Nardini) Shanoski. Also surviving are two daughters: Karen A. Shanoski and husband, Brad Levan, of Norristown; and Carolyn Coal of Los Angeles, CA; a son: Eric Shanoski of Hartford, CT; two grandchildren: Jason and Benjamin Levan; a brother: Chester Boyarski of Paducah, KY and also a sister: Eleanor Mulligan of Moosic.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 3 at 11 a.m. at St. Columba Catholic Church, Third and Iron Streets, Bloomsburg with Monsignor Robert E. Lawrence and Rev. Chet Snyder, as celebrants.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass. Graveside services will immediately follow the services. The Immediate family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions in Ted's honor may be made to the: Drs. Ted and Lorraine Shanoski Scholarship Fund, c/o Bloomsburg University Foundation/Development Office, 400 E. 2nd Street, Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
