Obituary

Dr. T. Clark Corson, MD, age 80, of Grey Street, Bloomsburg, died Thursday, June 21, 2012, a patient at the Bloomsburg Hospital after being admitted on Tuesday. He also resided at his home in Bonita Springs, Florida.
Dr. Corson was born on Sunday, December 13, 1931 in Philadelphia, a son of the late Thomas C., Jr. and Ansilla (LaMonaca) Corson. He spent his earlier years growing up in the suburbs of Philadelphia and graduated school in 1949 from the Upper Darby High School. Following graduation, he attended the University of Pennsylvania where he became a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity and also the Alpha Epsilon Delta Premedical Honor Society. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1953 with a B.A. Degree in Zoology. In 1957, he graduated from Jefferson Medical College with a Medical Degree, and also became a member of Theta Kappa Psi Fraternity and the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society. He followed his graduation by serving his general rotating internship at Williamsport Hospital.
In 1958, he enlisted in the United States Air Force as a Flight Surgeon, and later obtained the rank of Captain while stationed at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia from 1958 to 1964.
Subsequently, he served a residency in Obstetric and Gynecology at the Women's Hospital and also at the John's Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland from 1960 to 1964. He also served as the Chief Resident at the Women's Hospital from 1963 to 1964.
In 1964, he joined the practice of the late Dr. L. F. Ritmiller in Bloomsburg, and later opened his own office at 10 Penn Street in Bloomsburg in 1972. He served the Town of Bloomsburg for over 23 years at his office on Penn Street until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the Bloomsburg Hospital Medical Staff and served for many years as Chief of the Obstetrical Department. He was also President of the Medical Staff and a member of the Board of Directors from 1977 to 1978. Throughout his career, he delivered over 6,000 babies.
Dr. Corson was certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1967. He was a Life Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and also held memberships in the American Medical Association, Pennsylvania Medical Society, and the Columbia County Medical Society. He served as a School Director of the Central Columbia School District from 1971 to 1983, and was Board President in 1976. He was a member of the First Columbia Bank & Trust Co. Board of Directors from 1984 to 2000. In 1966, he became a member of the Bloomsburg Elks BPOE 436. He was also a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Bloomsburg since 1979 and served on the Church Council and the Endowment Committee.
He enjoyed spending his time gardening, caring for his lawn and swimming pool, and also loved solving cryptograms, crossword and Sudoku puzzles. He also enjoyed having a dry Martini just prior to dinner.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 55 years, the former Joan Schuchart; three children: Pamela (George) Corson of Bel Air, Maryland; Jeffrey Corson (Gina) of Lock Haven; and Nancy McPeak (Michael) of Philadelphia; five grandchildren: John, Josh, Melissa, Jeffrey and Jennifer; and one great-grandson, Stephen.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, June 24 from 1 to 2 p.m. from the St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 123 N. Market Street, Bloomsburg.
Funeral Services will begin on Sunday, June 24 at 2 p.m. from the St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg with Rev. Dr. Joel L. Zeiders, officiating. Graveside services will follow in the New Rosemont Cemetery, Bloomsburg.
Memorial contributions in Dr. Corson's honor are suggested to the St. Matthew Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 123 N. Market St., Bloomsburg.
