Sylvester J. Rutkoski, 92, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2026, while a resident of Glenbrook Rehabilitation and Health Center, Berwick.

Sylvester was born on Thursday, April 26, 1934 in Nanticoke, a son of the late Walter and Julia (Weisgable) Rutkoski. He graduated from Huntington Township High School, class of 1952. After high school, he faithfully served in the United States Air Force until his honorable discharge in February, 1961. For over 30 years, Sylvester was employed by the United States Postal Service, delivering mail throughout Shickshinny. He was also a devoted member of St. Martha’s Catholic Church, Stillwater.

Sylvester had a love for polka music and found great joy in sharing his passion with others. A talented accordionist, he recorded and released five albums. In his younger years, Sylvester enjoyed playing baseball, and later in life, coaching little league. Above all else, Sylvester treasured his family. He could always be found at his grandkid’s sporting events, usually behind a camera recording cherished memories.

In addition to his parents, Sylvester was preceded in death by his siblings.

Survivors include his beloved children: Sylvester M. Rutkoski of Shickshinny, Michael Rutkoski of Hot Springs Village, AR, and Linda Sorber of Shickshinny; three grandchildren: Corey, Kayla and Bret; as well as four great-grandchildren.

Private Graveside Service with Sylvester’s interment at St. Martha’s Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., Bloomsburg, is honored to be serving the Rutkoski family.
