Obituary

Steven J. Sheigel, age 87, died on Tuesday, January 1, 2013, a resident of the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center in Scranton. Steven also resided previously at the Waterbridge Personal Care Home in Pine Grove. He spent most of his life in the Reading area.
Steven was born on Tuesday, August 4, 1925 in Summit Hill, Carbon County, a son of the late John and Sophie (Krutsick) Sheigel. Throughout his earlier years, he attended elementary and later graduated from the Summit Hill area schools. Following his high school education, Steven enlisted with the United States Air Force on October 16, 1950. He also served prior in the United States Army Air Corps. He served his country faithfully during the Korean Conflict, and was stationed at the Bolling Air Force Base where he served as a Staff Sergeant. On October 15, 1951, Staff Sergeant Steven Sheigel was honorably discharged from his dedicated time of service. Following his return to Pennsylvania, Steven was employed by the New York Department of Commerce as a Radio Technician. Most recently and for over ten years, he was employed by Boeing North American until he retired at the age of 48 years old. He was a member of the United Steel Workers of America and also the Reading VFW Post#38.
In October of 2007, Steven was preceded by his long time companion Grace Kramer, and was also preceded by his ten siblings. Steven was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Funeral and Graveside Services will be held privately on Tuesday, January 8th in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville with Military Honors. The Sheigel family is being assisted by the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
