Shirley Kay (Davis) Omalia, 84, of Catawissa, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, August 2, 2026, peacefully at her home.
Born in Zion Grove on Friday, May 10, 1942, Shirley was a cherished daughter of the late Karl and Blanche (Longenberger) Davis. She grew up in the local area and graduated from Bloomsburg High School with the Class of 1960. On May 11, 2007, she was united in marriage to her devoted husband, Joseph Omalia, with whom she shared 19 beautiful years of marriage and companionship.
Shirley dedicated her life to the service of others. For many years, she provided compassionate care as an employee at the White Haven Center in PA. She was then called to Arizona where her diverse career included dedicated service of 20 years with the State of Arizona and Senior Helpers from which she eventually retired. A woman of deep and enduring faith, Shirley was a faithful member of St. Columba Catholic Church in Bloomsburg.
Outside of her professional life, Shirley found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid gardener, exceptionally skilled at canning, cooking, and baking. She also shared a unique passion for motorcycling and held a profound affection for all animals. Above all else, her greatest happiness came from her family, and she treasured every moment spent in their company.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by three sisters, Joyce Fisher, Judy Neiswender, and Sandra Stair; and a brother, Walter Davis.
Her memory will be forever cherished by her surviving family, including her beloved husband, Joseph Omalia of Catawissa; her three sons, Mark Hartzell and his wife, Sharon, of Bloomsburg, Allen Kotansky of Wilkes-Barre, and Todd Kotansky and his wife, Lena, of Hazleton; her daughter, Beth Grevera and her husband, Tony, of Sumter, SC; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Roger Davis and his wife, Joan, of Tavares, FL; and her sister, Sharon Davis of Berwick.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Columba Catholic Church, with her pastor, Reverend Richard J. Mowery, serving as Celebrant. Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation at the church from 9:00 AM until the start of the Mass. Committal services and interment will follow at Davis Chapel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Shirley's honor may be made to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg, is honored to serve the Omalia family.
