Shirley M. McCarthy, age 65 of Main St., Catawissa died Saturday, July 20 at her home following a brief illness. Born on Sunday, January 4, 1948 in Bloomsburg, she was the daughter of the late Donald W. and Lucille (Hendricks) Carter.
After attending Southern Columbia High School, Shirley worked as a Nurse's Aide and Cook at the former Gold Star Nursing Home. She was a member of the Catawissa Post of the American Legion Auxiliary and Ladies of the Moose, Danville.
Shirley's death ends a marital span of 35 years with James W. McCarthy whom she married September 10, 1977. Also surviving are two daughters: Megan Hare and husband, Zachary, of Hubert NC and Diane McCormick and husband, Mark, of Catawissa; three sons: James A. McCarthy and wife, Kathy, of Milton, Patrick W. McCarthy of Harrisburg and Todd J. McCarthy of Catawissa; 11 grandchildren, Angel, Dominica, Shawn, Sydney, Taylor, Austin, Morgan, Autumn, Addison, Kaylee and Emilee; two great grandchildren: Tyler and Emily; a sister: Barbara Shultz and husband, Jerry, of Escanaba, MI and a brother: Daniel Butters and wife, Penny, of Bloomsburg. She was preceded in death by a sister: Carol A. Cook on July 29, 2001.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday, July 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth St. Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will follow at 7 pm with the Rev. Jake Woodward, pastor of Catawissa First United Methodist Church, officiating.
