Obituary

Shirley J. (Long) Ikeler, age 91, of Twin Hill Terrace, Bloomsburg, died on Tuesday afternoon, July 8, 2014 in the Grandview Health Homes where she had resided since May 8 of this year.
Shirley was born on Saturday, December 2, 1922 in Bloomsburg, a daughter of the late Ivan and Lettie (Faux) Long. In 1941, Shirley completed her education by graduating from the Bloomsburg High School. After graduation, she married Robert B. Ikeler of Rupert. A marital span of 54 years was severed when Robert died on May 2, 1997.
For 33 years, Shirley was Secretary to the Board of Directors of the Bloomsburg Fair. In 1984, she was honored with the Fairman of the Year Award. Besides her family, Shirley's other primary interest was her church, the former Rupert United Methodist Church where she taught Women's Sunday School Class. She currently was a member of the Buckhorn United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by four siblings: John Long, Sylva Mourer, Grace Bredbenner and William Long. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors include a son: Robert B. Ikeler, Jr. and wife, Susan and a daughter: Susan Sumner and husband, Hugh, all of Bloomsburg; and six grandchildren: Joshua Harvey, Joseph Harvey, Jeremy Harvey, Ethan Ikeler, Robert Ikeler and Megan Sumner.
At this time, all viewings and services will be held privately with Rev. Gary Riechenbach, officiating. Graveside committal services will be held in the Dutch Hill Cemetery, Madison Township. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street in Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Ikeler family.
