Shirley J. (Reinaker) Leiby, 91, of Danville, passed away peacefully and in her sleep, Friday, May 8, 2026 at Emmanuel Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Danville. Born in Danville on July 8, 1934, she was a daughter to the late Charles D. and Rachel (Churm) Reinaker.
Shirley was a graduate of Danville High School, Class of 1952. On December 31, 1952, she wed the love of her life, Gerald “Jerk” Leiby, with whom she would raise a family, operate a business, and share 73 years of marriage. For more than 30 years, she and Jerk operated West End Service. She was also a 17-year employee of the Bloomsburg Hospital, from which she retired in 1996. Shirley was a member of Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church in Grovania. She had a love of travel. Following retirement, she and Jerk undertook a ten-year journey, crisscrossing the United States and Canada in their RV. She loved spending time with her beloved family, especially at the Catawissa Boat Club and on her regular trips to Lancaster.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by grandson, Benjamin P. Yocum; sister, Barbara Showers; and brother, Donald Reinaker, Jr.
Surviving Shirley are her loving husband, Gerald “Jerk” Leiby; children: Martin R. Leiby and wife, Beth, of Bloomsburg, Melinda J. Reed and husband, Bill, of Unityville, and Matthew E. Leiby and wife, Karla, of Bloomsburg; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, William Reinaker; and sister-in-law, Betty McCormick and her companion, Robert.
Shirley’s Funeral Service will be 11 AM Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church, 8 County Line Drive, Danville. Reverend Karla Leiby will officiate. Friends will be received from 10 AM until the time of the service at 11 AM. Interment in Saint Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery will follow. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market Street, Bloomsburg, is honored to serve the Leiby family.
