Shirley D. (Sheldon) Clapp, age 96, of Danville, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2019, a patient of the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Shirley was a resident of Vintage Knolls in Danville for the past 5 years.
She was born on Monday, May 21, 1923 in Oakham, MA, a daughter of the late Nathan William and Doris Althea (Carpenter) Sheldon. Shirley graduated from the Marlborough High School, Marlborough, MA in 1941. On November 23, 1941, Shirley married her high school sweetheart, Robert Sanford Clapp, who preceded her in death on November 18, 1995. Shirley was a member of the First English Baptist Church, Bloomsburg, and was an active member of every church she attended, serving on church boards, teaching Sunday School, playing the organ and singing in the choirs. Shirley was also active in her communities, in garden clubs, Girl and Boy Scouts as a leader. She enjoyed spending her time playing the organ, piano and harmonica, gardening, sewing, quilting, reading poetry, playing cribbage and doing family geneology. She loved to keep in touch with friends and acquaintances from all the places she lived in the past including; New Bedford, MA, Plymouth, MA, Beverly, MA, Florham Park, NJ, Sussex, NJ, Jeffersonville, NY, Englishtown, NJ, Salem, NJ, Lightstreet, PA, Dover Plains, NY, and South Egremont, MA.
In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was also preceded by a great grandson, Noah FrostClapp, and a sister, Mary Mosher.
Survivors include her four children; Susan E. Fleming of Saint Augustine, FL, Gordon S. Clapp and wife Mary of Bloomsburg, Richard A. Clapp and wife Nancy of Sheffield, MA, Kenneth W. Clapp of Granby, CT, seven grandchildren; David FrostClapp and wife Kara of Ithaca, NY, Cynthia wife of Ronald Eyer of Frederick, MD, Brian Clapp and wife Jennifer of Cumming, GA, Deborah Sanchez of Orange Park, FL, Scott Fawcett and wife Ting of Weymouth, MA, Richard W. Clapp and wife Darcie of Grand Haven, MI, Kimberly wife of Nicholas Ludlum of Vienna, VA, eleven great grandchildren, and a sister, Phyllis Conder of Worcester, MA.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, August 23, 2019 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at First English Baptist Church, 700 Millville Road, Bloomsburg.
Funeral Services will begin on Friday, August 23, 2019 at 2:00 pm at First English Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Lee Barnhardt, officiating. Graveside committal services will be held privately at the convenience of the family in Hillside Cemetery, North Egremont, MA.
