Sharon Ann Zalonis, age 72, of Bloomsburg, died unexpectedly on Saturday evening, December 20, 2014 a patient of Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
Sharon was born on Saturday, September 12, 1942 in Galveston, Texas, a daughter of the late Adolph M. and Freda (Steinruck) Zalonis. Throughout her younger years, Sharon attended the Bloomsburg area schools and graduated in 1961 from the Bloomsburg High School. For many years, she was employed by the former Woolworth store in Bloomsburg until her retirement. She was a devoted member of the St. Columba Catholic Parish for many years. Sharon was also loved and enjoyed spending her time reading books and visiting the Bloomsburg Library.
Survivors include five siblings: Michael G. Zalonis, with who she resided; Martin R. Zalonis of Meadville, PA; Robert N. Zalonis and wife, Debby, of Berwick; Elaine Zalonis of Eugene, OR; and Mark W. Zalonis and wife, Ruth, of Scottsdale, PA; and numerous nephews and nieces.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin on Monday, December 29 at 10 a.m. from the St. Columba Catholic Church, 342 Iron and Third Streets in Bloomsburg with Monsignor Robert E. Lawrence, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. All viewings will be held privately for the family. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street in Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Zalonis family.
