Scott E. Miller, Jr. age 84, of Sherwood Village, Bloomsburg, died on Sunday, January 6, 2013, a patient of Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Scott was born on Sunday, October 14, 1928 in Pittsburgh, the only child of the late Scott E. and Maybelle (Stiffler) Miller. During his younger years, he graduated from the Oliver High School in Pittsburgh. Following his high school education, he attended the University of Pittsburgh where he received a Bachelor's Degree and later double Master's Degrees in Library Science and English. Until his retirement in 1991, Scott was employed by the Bloomsburg University as a Librarian. He was also an accomplished professional Jazz Musician. Scott was also a member of SPEBSQSA, singing with a local Barbershop Quartet for many years. He attended the St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Bloomsburg, and sang in the church choir. Scott had a wonderful passion for jazz and classical music spending many happy hours performing , arranging and listening to his extensive collection of recordings. He also enjoyed reading, dogs and all types and years of cars. Scott cherished his family deeply and loved to spend time with them.
On October 10, 2011, Scott was preceded by his beloved wife of 56 years, the late Jeanne (Loerch) Miller, and was also preceded by a son, David S. Miller, on May 7, 2009.
Survivors include two daughters: Christine Massey of Bala Cynwyd, PA; and Katherine Chen and husband, Reginald, of West Windsor, NJ; three grandchildren: Laura Massey, Michael Chen and Christine Chen; and a daughter-in-law: Betsy Miller and husband, Joseph, of Sterling, VA.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, January 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will begin on Thursday, January 10 at 10 a.m. at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Main and Iron Street, Bloomsburg with the Rev. David S. Bateman, celebrant. Private Graveside services will be held in the New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. Memorial contributions in Scott's memory are suggested to the David S. Miller Young Scientist Scholarship, American Geophysical Union, Attn: Development Office, 2000 Florida Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20009.
