Sarah G. (Rupert) Shuman, age 88, formerly of Danville, died on Monday morning, September 14, 2015 at the home of her daughter and under the care of Columbia Montour Hospice.
Sarah was born on Saturday, February 12, 1927 in Beaver Township, a daughter of the late Pierce and Annie (Schell) Rupert. Throughout her younger years she attended the Beaver Township area school and became a graduate of the former Beaver High School in 1945. On September 24, 1949, Sarah married her beloved husband, Donald R. Shuman, after his safe return from serving during World War II. For many years, they made their home in Beaver Township until moving to the Danville area in 1999. In addition to raising her five children in the home, she was employed for over 20 years by the former Bloomsburg Mills. For many years, Sarah and her late husband were members of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Mainville. Sarah love and joy most of all was spending time with her children and grandchildren who will miss her deeply.
On November 11, 2013, Sarah was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Donald R. Shuman. She was also preceded by a son, William D. Shuman, on June 8, 1989.
Surviving are two daughters: Elsie Angus and husband, John, of Bloomsburg; Susan Millard and husband, Rob, of Mifflinville; two sons: Wayne Shuman and wife, Judy, of Mainville; and Clark Shuman and wife, April, of Danville; nine grandchildren: Ray and Katie Angus, Hope and Eric Millard, Wayne Shuman, Jr., Pam (Shuman) Slusser, Holly and Jamie Shuman, and Devon Hartman; two step-grandchildren: Kolby and Taylor Whitenight; and twelve great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces. Sarah was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning, October 24 at 11 a.m. from the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 320 Church Street in Mainville with Rev. Robert Barner, Columbia Montour Hospice Chaplain, officiating.
