Santo F. J. Lanzafame, age 87, of Bloomsburg, passed away on Wednesday evening, June 19, 2019, a patient of the Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital.
Santo, also known by friends and family as "Sid", was born on Thursday, October 22, 1931 in New York City, NY, a son of the late Anthony and Angeline (Mancuso) Lanzafame. Throughout his younger years, Sid attended the New York area schools, and graduated from Jamaica High School in 1949. Sid expanded his education by attending Cornell University and graduated with an Associate's Degree in 1980. He served as President of the New York Bricklayers Local 1 and sat on the Bricklayers International Executive Board until his retirement in 2010. He was Director of The Bricklayers Craft Schools in New York, and initiated a large number of charitable projects, including Habitat For Humanity and The March Of Dimes.
On January 6, 1957, Sid married his loving wife, the former Helen A. Gerrity, who passed on March 2, 2010. Sid enjoyed spending his time collecting coins and antiques as well as spending as many sunny days as possible on the golf course.
In addition to his parents and wife, Sid was also preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Lanzafame, a granddaughter, two brothers: Joseph and Salvatore Lanzafame, and two sisters, Angeline Sala and Marie Lanzafame.
Survivors include his daughter, Tracy Lanzafame of Bloomsburg, his son, Anthony M. Lanzafame and wife, Doreen, of East Northport, Long Island, NY, a grandson, J Addison Lanzafame and a granddaughter, Haley Lutz.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday morning, June 28, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eight Street in Bloomsburg.
Funeral Services will begin on Friday, June 28, 2019 at 12:00 noon at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., Bloomsburg with Monsignor Robert E. Lawrence of St. Columba Catholic Church, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Lanzafame family.
