Ruth Emilie Kalis, 95, of Bloomsburg, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, a resident of the Emmanuel Nursing Center, Danville.
Ruth was born on Friday, August 8, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York, a daughter of the late Hugo and Emilie (Benzenburg) Bocker. She attended Brooklyn area schools. On October 15, 1955, Ruth married her loving husband, Rev. Robert David Kalis, who preceded her in death on January 12, 1994. She was a dedicated wife and mother who took great pride in being a consummate homemaker. Ruth attended the Glad Tidings Assembly of God, Bloomsburg. She was an ordained minister who faithfully served, along with her late husband, Rev. Robert David Kalis. Ruth served in many ways; as an organist, in children's ministry, as Sunday School teacher, and as leader of the Women's Ministry at Emmanuel Pentecostal Church, Elizabeth, NJ, for almost 40 years. Ruth and her husband were also directors of Pilgrim Camp in the Adirondacks. Following Robert’s death in 1994, she continued to serve in various capacities, first at Scotch Plains Baptist Church, NJ, and then as organist in Bangor, PA, as well as a Bible teacher at Glorious Church in Mount Pocono. Ruth enjoyed spending her time canning, baking and cooking, raising her family, and traveling around the world on mission trips, including those to Taiwan, India and the British Virgin Islands.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was also preceded in death by her daughter, Grace Esther Kalis, and three siblings: Paul Bocker, Rolf Bocker, and Rev. Gerda Bocker.
Survivors include her three beloved children: Ruth Joy Capozzi and husband, Alfred, of Bloomsburg, Philip Robert Kalis and wife, Heidi, of Summerville, SC, and John Rudololph Kalis of Matthews, NC; six grandchildren: Laura Grace Luck and husband, Sean, of Fayetteville, GA, James R. Kalis and wife, Rebekah, of Costa Mesa, CA, Emilie Mizzone and husband, Jonny, of Costa Mesa, CA, Kevin Robert Kalis, Christopher Kalis, and Kimberly Kalis; and six great-grandchildren.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, June 1, 2026 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Glad Tidings Assembly of God, 706 Central Road, Bloomsburg.
Funeral Services will be Monday, June 1, 2026 at 11:00 am at the Glad Tidings Assembly of God, with Rev. John Kolenda officiating. Graveside committal services will be held 12 Noon Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at the Hazel Wood Cemetery, Colonia, NJ. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Kalis and Capozzi families.
