Ruth L. Hess, age 105, of Bloomsburg, died on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at The Gardens of Orangeville. She was a resident of Brookdale Assisted Living in Bloomsburg for past 18 months. Prior, Ruth was a resident of her home in Lightstreet for over 44 years.

Ruth was born on Tuesday, July 3, 1917, in Wilkes Barre, a daughter of the late Cyrus Ben and Ida (Wintroath) Hess. Ruth graduated from the E.L. Meyers High School (Wilkes Barre) in1935.

During World War II, Ruth was employed by the Pennsylvania Bureau of Vital Statistics in Harrisburg. She was then employed by the Pennsylvania Department of HIghways in Luzerne County and completed her working career as an executive secretary with the Wilkes Barre Area School District, retiring in 1978.
Ruth was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wilkes Barre until its closure and transferred membership to Firwood United Methodist Church. After retiring and moving to Lightstreet, she attended the Lightstreet United Methodist Church. Ruth was also a member of the Wyoming Valley Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Miquon Colonists Chapter, D.A.R.

Survivors include her sister: Mary Louise Roberts of Delmar, NY; nephews: Atty. David B. Roberts of Albany, NY, Dr. Craig Roberts of Saratoga Springs, NY, and Scott Roberts of Delmar, NY.

A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, December 1, from 10 to 11 am at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth St., Bloomsburg.

Funeral and Committal Services will follow at 11:00 am with Rev. Michael Delp, officiating. A private interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Wilkes Barre. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Hess family.
