Obituary

Ruth E. "Betty" Hack, age 87, of Port Noble Drive, Bloomsburg died on November 3, 2011 a resident of Homeland Center in Harrisburg. She was a life-long resident of the Bloomsburg Area.

Betty was born on Saturday, May 3, 1924 in Danville, a daughter of the late Howard and Ruth (Goodall) Patterson. She was a member of the 1942 Graduating Class of the Bloomsburg High School. During WWII, she worked in the offices of Magee Carpet Company, and retired as an assistant manager from Central Pennsylvania Savings & Loan where she worked for over 25 years. She was a devoted member of the Wesley United Methodist Church for over 77 years and served as a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the Crusaders Sunday School Class, the Shepherd and Lamb Association and was an office volunteer. Betty was also a life member of the Bloomsburg Chapter #279 O.E.S., the Bloomsburg Hospital Auxiliary, a Cub Scout Den Mother, a 35 year Local Card Club member, and also a member of the Ramblers Travel Club. She had a special love of watching her sons and nephews play football and baseball, and later in life, watching her granddaughters swim and also play soccer and field hockey.

Early in her life, Betty was a very accomplished softball player and enjoyed playing the sport. Throughout her later years, she was an avid bowler and maintained a 170 point average. She loved all kinds of sports but was a very devoted supporter and fan of the Philadelphia Phillies, Washington Redskins and religiously cheered and supported the Penn State Nittany Lions Football Team.

Preceding her in death was her beloved husband of 42 years, A. Collins Hack, in August of 1986; and also preceding, was a son: Richard C. Hack in December of 1964, and three sisters: Beverly Hack, Emily Rhone, and Mary Long.

Survivors include a son: Terry H. Hack and wife, Bonnie, of Harrisburg; two granddaughters: Angela C. Hess and husband, Justin, of Grantville; and Danielle H. Michael and husband, Wade, of Bellefonte; two great-grandchildren: Addison and Gavin Hess; two step great-grandchildren: Jacob and Abigail Michael; a daughter-in-law: Mary Eleanor Beaver of Exton; and a sister: Dawn Zeisloft of Bloomsburg.

A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, November 8 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. from the Wesley United Methodist Church, 130 W. 3rd Street in Bloomsburg.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, November 8 at 11:30 a.m. from the Wesley United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jay E. Jones, officiating. Graveside services will follow in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. The Hack family is being assisted by the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
