Roy E. Hoglund, age 91, 1017 Fair St., Mifflinville, died Tuesday, November 25 at Berwick Hospital where he had been admitted earlier in the day. Roy had lived on Fair St. for the past thirty-eight years. Roy was born February 19, 1917 in Bayonne, NJ, the son of the late Carl and Svea (Silen) Hoglund. He attended Lyndhurst High School, Lyndhurst, NJ. During World War II he served with the U.S. Navy in the Solomon Islands. Prior to his retirement in 1984, Roy was employed for many years as a machinist at the former Consolidated Cigar in Berwick. Roy was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Mifflinville, where he was a former council member. He was a member of the Lions Club, Mifflinville. Survivors include his wife of seventy years, Martha (Vial) Hoglund, whom he married August 5, 1938; a daughter: Diane Bachinger and her husband, John, Bloomsburg; a son: Roy E. Hoglund II and his wife, Dorothy, Richland; four grandsons: David and Robert Hoglund and Jeffrey and James Bachinger and two great-grandsons: Bryce and Branson Hoglund. He was preceded in death by a sister: Edith Hoglund and a brother: Robert Axel Hoglund. He was the last member of his immediate family.Funeral services will be Monday, December 1 at 2 P.M. from St. John Lutheran Church, 5th and Race St. Mifflinville, with Pastor Joshua L. Reinsburrow officiating. Friends will be received Sunday from 3 – 5 P.M. at the Allen Funeral Home, 745 Market at Eighth St., Bloomsburg and Monday from 1 to 2 P.M. at the church. Burial will be in Elan Memorial Park. There will be a combined VFW/Legion group providing military honors. The family will provide flowers.
