Obituary

Roy David Ashby, age 84, of Lewisburg passed away on Thursday evening, February 13, 2025, at his home in Lewisburg at the RiverWoods Senior Living Community hours after enjoying a birthday cupcake with several close friends.

He was born on February 13, 1941, in Chester, Pennsylvania, the late son of Roy David Ashby Sr. and Gertrude (Tuttle) Ashby. Roy spent most of his life in Media before moving to Bloomsburg, PA, in 2002 and later to RiverWoods, in 2012.

Roy graduated from Girard College in Philadelphia then honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a helicopter mechanic, stationed in Germany, where he performed border patrol duties. His service was a source of pride, and he carried the values of dedication and craftsmanship with him throughout his life. Roy then built a long and successful career in foundries, working his way up from a wood pattern maker to a purchasing agent, eventually retiring from Union Metal.

Roy was a man of many passions, with a deep love for woodworking, deep sea fishing, and spending time at the beach. At RiverWoods, he enjoyed making gadgets, toys, and other handcrafted items for the RiverWoods Auxiliary. He also found joy in target shooting and was a member of the Union County Sportsmen's Club. He was an active part of the community, helping to organize Grande Illumination, a cherished annual event.

Above all, Roy was a devoted family man. He was the beloved husband of the late Judith P. Ashby, married in November of 1966. They shared many happy years. After five years apart, he now reunites with Judy.

He is survived by his loving son, R. David Ashby Jr., and daughter-in-law, Francine, as well as his brother, William Ashby, his wife, Barbara, and their daughter, Jennifer Ashby Patel, and her husband, Gitesh Patel. He is also survived by his great-nephews, Deven Patel, Kannan Patel, and Kirin Patel.

Roy's legacy lives on in the memories of those he touched with his kindness and wisdom. A private memorial service will be held at a later date at RiverWoods. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to RiverWoods at: www.asbury.org/foundation/donate/ .
