Rosella J. Nelson, of Millville, passed away on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville surrounded by her loving husband and children.
She was born in Elmhurst, Queens, NY, a daughter of the late John and Mary "Molly" (Maloney) Sweeney. She fought hard through many health crises to continue doing what she loved most, living a beautiful life with her husband of 53 years, Warren, being a best friend to her daughter, Colleen, enjoying a close relationship with her son and daughter in law, John and Danialle. Rosella adored her grandchildren, Riley and Shamus. She loved her sisters, Patricia and Mary very much and looked forward to their talks. She looked forward to keeping in touch with her cousin and best friend, Noreen.
Rosella insisted until her last day she was 39 years young (the math baffled her grandchildren). Rosella never met a stranger, but only a friend she didn't know well yet. She was never without a witty comment, funny story, or kind word. Her favorite emotion was humor, specifically inappropriate giggling in times of great stress. Rosella's heart was enormous, beautiful, and amazing. The world will be a little dimmer without her radiant personality and compassionate nature. She exuded love, grace, and patience in all she did. She was so proud to be a nurse for 15 years at Brunswick Hospital, Amityville, Long Island, NY. She was delighted to be one of the nurses that founded Maria Hall for Columbia- Montour Hospice in Danville, PA. Rosella worked diligently to provide dignified and respectful deaths for her patients for 23 years.
Rosella loved God and church. She studied to be a nun for two years while in high school. She loved to talk about God and religion to all. Rosella loved everything about Ireland and had many trips there to celebrate her heritage with her sister, husband, and children. She was an avid reader, learning about anything that interested her. She doted on animals, caring for many that found their way to her. Rosella loved the arts, as an artist, seeing any dance performances she could, loving music of all kinds. Rosella was truly a beautiful person that impacted so many people. Mom, the world was just as in love with you as you were with celebrating all of it. Thank you for your life and love.
In addition to her parents, Rosella was also preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Liam on November 6, 2007, a sister, Anne Thomas, as well as many other family members.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 53 years, Warren C. Nelson; two children, Colleen M. Nelson of Bloomsburg, John A. Nelson and wife Danialle of Frenchtown, NJ; two grandchildren, Riley Rose Nelson, Shamus Warren Danial Nelson; two sisters, Mary wife of Tony LaRocca of North Babylon, NY, Patricia Strasser of Newark Valley, NY, a dear friend and cousin, Noreen Stevenson, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
