Ronald E. LeVan, Sr., age 76, of Second Street (Almedia), Bloomsburg, died on Sunday, April 17, 2011 under the care of Columbia Montour Home Hospice at Maria Hall in Danville.
Ronald was born on Wednesday, October 10, 1934 in Bloomsburg, the only child of the late Nathan and Belle (Rubenstein) LeVan. He attended the Bloomsburg Area Schools. Following his education, he served with the U.S. Air Force, also the U.S. Army and most recently with the Air National Guard, with a 42 year military career that spanned both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. From 1981 to 1990, serving with the Air National Guard, he served with his son, Ronald, Jr. He was a part of the first father and son team to ever serve together in the 201st Red Horse Civil Engineering Squadron at Indiantown Gap Military Reservation. In addition, he was also an original founding member of the 201st Red Horse Squadron in 1970. He was also a member of the Bloomsburg Valley American Legion Post 273 in Bloomsburg.
He survived by his beloved wife of over 53 years, Joan "Jenny" (Chapman) LeVan; two sons: Ronald E. LeVan, Jr. and wife, Leslie, of Berwick; and Frank J. LeVan and wife, Carole, of Fleetwood, PA; three grandchildren: Raichelle Sborz, Eric LeVan and Chad LeVan; and one great-grandson: Griffin Sborz.
A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 1 p.m. in the New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy with Rev. Thomas J. Fetterolf, officiating. A combined VFW/American Legion group will provide military honors. The LeVan family is being assisted by the Allen Funeral Home, 745 Market at Eighth Street in Bloomsburg.
