Ronald L. Deihl, age 70, of Bloomsburg, died unexpectedly on Monday, October 5, 2015 in the Emergency Room of the Geisinger-Bloomsburg Hospital.
Ron was born on Friday, August 17, 1945 in Danville, one of seven children to Leon and Virginia (Buckalew) Deihl. Ron was raised in Jerseytown with his six siblings, and later graduated from the Millville High School in 1963. Following his graduation, he attended the former Bloomsburg State Teacher's College before enlisting with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Ron spent two years serving in the Navy overseas before re-enlisting in the United States Airforce prior to his honorable discharge. After returning to Columbia County following the war, he made his home in Bloomsburg with his first wife, formerly Donna McHenry, where they raised their two daughters.
For over 20 years, Ron was employed by Big Heart Pet Brands, formerly Del Monte Foods, as a Security Officer. He was also a member of the Bloomsburg VFW Post# 804 Ft. McClure. His love for the military continued throughout the years as he became an avid student in the knowledge and history of the Civil War. Ron enjoyed spending his time with his daughters, and grandchildren. No matter what the activity, he was always happy to be doing whatever his grandchildren were doing.
In addition to his parents, Ron was also preceded in death by his first wife, Donna (McHenry) Deihl, on September 30, 2002; a son: Marc R. Deihl who passed in February of 1977; and also by a brother: Richard Deihl who passed on January 1, 2011.
Surviving is his beloved wife of two years, Wanda (Miller) Deihl, of Bloomsburg; two daughters: Ronda Poust of York; and Mary Deihl of Bloomsburg; four grandchildren: Odean Aikey, Chelsea McWilliams, Marc Aikey and Cassandra Poust; and five siblings: Daniel Deihl and wife, Joann, of Danville; Deborah Robbins and husband, Victor, of Millville; Peggy Levan and her husband, Larry, of Bloomsburg; Linda DeMott and companion, Dwayne Wynings, of Bloomsburg; and Diane Kehoe and husband, James, also of Bloomsburg.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday morning, October 10 from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street in Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will also begin on Saturday morning, October 10 at 10 a.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. Bloomsburg with Rev. Susan K. Knorr of the Columbia Circuit United Methodist Charge, officiating. Graveside committal services with full Military Honors will immediately follow in the New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc. is honored to be serving the Deihl family.
