Obituary

Romayne V. Meiss, age 91, of Catawissa, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2021, at Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center, Wilmington, Delaware from complications of dementia. She was born the oldest daughter of Raymond and Mary Louise (Nevraski) Vogelson on June 28, 1930, in Hazleton, PA. Romayne graduated from Hazleton Area High School and was part of the school's Speeder's Class that allowed her to skip a grade to graduate a year early. She married her husband, Rev. Henry C. Meiss, Jr. in October of 1952, who preceded her in death in February, 1991. Romayne worked for the Bell Telephone Company in Bloomsburg for several years and was the church organist for St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Numidia for over 30 years serving the Lord beside her husband. Then upon his death in 1991, she became the church organist and music leader at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Numidia until 2021. Music was an important part of her life and being a piano and organ teacher for over 60 years, she shared her love of music with each of her many students, still teaching until 2020. She was also an active member of the Roaring Creek Valley State Grange for many years.
Romayne was also proceeded in death by her brother, Raymond 'Sonny' Vogelson, Jr, and her sister, Dolores Dyckman. She is survived by her children: Henry Meiss, Ill and his wife, Kim of Catawissa; Marianne Meiss, of Catawissa, and Sue Yale and her husband, Stephen Yale, Sr. of North East, MD; her granddaughter, Cassie Richey and husband, Jonathan of Lynchburg, VA; her great-grandchildren, Jennie and Elaina Richey; step grandchildren, Stephen Yale Jr. and Amanda Yale of Maryland and step great grandchildren, Charlotte Yale, Owen and Zadie Hill.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday morning, August 27, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 27 Ringtown Mountain Road, Numidia.
Funeral Services will also begin on Friday morning, August 27 at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Numidia with Rev. Gordon E. Smith, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the Grace United Church of Christ Cemetery, Millgrove. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Meiss family.
