Rodney W. Kitchen, age 92, of Bloomsburg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, with his daughter by his side.
He was born on Tuesday, September 30, 1930 in Bloomsburg, a son of the late Woodrow W. and Sara V. (Law) Kitchen. Rodney attended Unionville High School. Rodney was a proud Navy Veteran-he was a Seaman and served as a radioman on the DD-776 USS James C. Owens and served during the Korean War. He retired as a police officer with the city of Coatesville. He worked at McDonald's as a maintence man for over 20 years. He enjoyed many trips to Broadkill Beach, DE with his family and loved fishing, traveling, animals and was a Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Chester County, Moose-Danville Lodge 1133, VFW and American Legion.
In addition to his parents, Rodney was also preceded in death by his wife Marcia (Keefer) Kitchen in 1992 and his companion of 25 years, Darlene K. Rupert in 2018.
He leaves behind two daughters; Deedra K. (Steven) Winey of Danville, Julie F. (Darin) Edwards of Bloomsburg; grandchildren; Jasmyn Winey (Aaron McAnnaney), Zane Winey (Shara Donohue), Collin Edwards, Mason Edwards and Wyatt Edwards, and one great grandson, Carson McAnnaney, as well as Darlene's two daughters; Jennifer (Brady) Schroer of Asheville, NC and Daffney Walter of Coal Township. He will be greatly missed but we will always carry him in our hearts.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, November 7, 2022 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
Funeral Services will begin on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at 10:00 am at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. with Rev. Michael Spagnuolo, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the Elan Memorial Park, Bloomsburg with military honors provided by the combined VFW and American Legion Honor Guard. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Kitchen family.
