Robert C. Miller, age 94, a life long resident of Bloomsburg, died Saturday, April 24, Loyalton of Bloomsburg. Most of his life he resided at 239 Fair St. and following retirement lived for many years at 915 Country Club Drive. Until moving to Loyalton two years ago, he was a resident of 744 Market St., Bloomsburg. Bob was born February 14, 1916 in Jamison City, PA. He was the last surviving of eleven children of Harry and Ida McHenry Miller. He graduated from the Bloomsburg High School in 1932. During World War II he served with distinction in the US Army as a medic. He was decorated with five battle stars including the Normandy Invasion, Battle of the Bulge and the First Crossing of the Rhine River into Heartland Germany. Mr. Miller was employed for 43 years at Magee Carpet Co. He retired as Traffic Manager. He was a 65 year member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church where he served several terms on the church council. He was a former member of the Bloomsburg Town Council to which he was elected on a write-in vote. He was a member of Washington Lodge #263 F&AM and Caldwell Consistory both of Bloomsburg, Valley of Bloomsburg American Legion Post 273, a life member of Bloomsburg Lodge 436 BPOE (Elks), life member of the former Winona Fire Co. Bob was an advisor to Bloomsburg Boy Scouts and DeMolay and a coach with Midget Football. In addition to his parents and 10 siblings, Bob was preceded in death by his first wife: Mary (Enterline) Miller on May 23, 1986 and his second wife Ida Mae (Gelbaugh) Rishel Miller on November 1, 2003. Survivors include a son Barry E. Miller and wife, Susan, of Slippery Rock, PA two grandsons: Robert S. Miller and Brandon B. Miller; a step-son: Harry William Rishel, Jr. and wife, Paulette, of Northumberland; four step-grandchildren: Harry William Rishel III and wife, Jennifer, of Danville, Ember Sue Markunas and husband (Anthony) of Selinsgrove, Jeremy P. Rishel of Washington and Amy Sue Clark of Bloomsburg and five step great grandchildren. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family with entombment in Elan Memorial Park with his pastor, Rev. Joel L. Zeiders, officiating.
