Robert A. Brunozzi, Sr., age 87, of Bloomsburg, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 2, 2024.
Robert was born on Friday, August 6, 1937 in Wilkes Barre, son of the late Aguinaldo and Frances (Horanzy) Brunozzi. He attended Newport Township Schools, Penn State University and the Pennsylvania State Police Academy. He served with the Pennsylvania State Police from May 12, 1966, until he retired on January 4, 1991. He was also a US Air Force veteran serving for 4 years prior to joining the State Police. He married the former Jean Ann Butchko on May 7, 1960, and she preceded him in death on July 7, 2002. They moved to their Scenic Knolls (Bloomsburg) home where he resided for 52 years.
With the Pennsylvania State Police, he was assigned to the following barracks: Lancaster, Exton, Downingtown, Hazleton, Bureau of Criminal Investigations, and the Organized Crime Division at Departmental Headquarters in Harrisburg as well as being assigned to numerous major crime investigations throughout the State. Upon retiring from the State Police, he started The Brunozzi Investigation Agency and operated the business along with his wife Jean.
In her honor, along with his three sons and families, he started the Jean Brunozzi Memorial Golf Tournament, which ran for 10 years and raised over $400,000, all donated to the Foundation for Neurologic Diseases to help find the cause and cure for the mind robbing Alzheimer's disease.
In addition to his parents and wife, Robert was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard Brunozzi.
He is survived by his children, Ronald and wife Michele, of Cicero, NY; Jeffrey of Clearwater, FL; Bert and wife Stacey of Bloomsburg; along with seven grandchildren: Jeffrey Jr., Nicole, Christopher and wife Mikaela, Matthew, Nicholas, Andrew, and Julia Jean, and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by his companion for the last 20 years, Mary Rayno, of Beaver Meadows.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Bloomsburg American Legion, Bloomsburg Elks, Penn State Nittany Lion Club, National Rifle Association, Retired State Police Association of PA, Glen Lyon Italian American Club, and the Maria Assunta Society. He enjoyed attending Penn State football games with his wife and family as well as spending time in Hilton Head, SC.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin on Friday, September 6, 2024 at 10:00 am at St. Columba Catholic Church with Rev. Patrick A. Devine, Celebrant. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in New Rosemont Cemetery, Bloomsburg. Military honors will be presented by The Columbia County Honor Guard. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Brunozzi family.
