Obituary

Robert E. Bickert, age 81, of Greenwood Township, died on Thursday, June 6, 2013, a patient of Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Bob was born on Thursday, March 31, 1932 in Catawissa, a son of the late William Floyd and Gladys (Hill) Bickert. In 1950, Bob graduated from the Catawissa High School. Following his education, Bob enlisted with the United States Marine Corps on February 23, 1951 where he served his country faithfully during the Korean Conflict. On February 22, 1954, Sergeant Robert E. Bickert was honorably discharged from his time of dedicated service. After returning home, Bob married his beloved wife of 48 years, the late Shirley L. Dendler, who passed in 2002.
For many years, Bob was employed by the former U.S. Radium, and was also a Postal Service Worker for many years in Columbia County. He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Bloomsburg, and also a member of the American Legion Post #541 in Catawissa, and the Bloomsburg Elks Lodge #436 B.P.O.E. Bob loved spending his time with his family, grandchildren and especially his great-grandchildren and will always be remembered as "Pap".
Survivors include two sons: William "Bill" Bickert and wife, Elizabeth, of Millville; and Daniel Bickert of Tampa, FL; two daughters: Christine Sands and husband, Mike, of Wilmington, NC; and Deborah Hammaker and husband, Robin, of Bloomsburg; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Marqueen, Glovene Adams and husband, Abe; and Mary Ellen Leiby all of Catawissa.
In addition to his late wife, Bob was also preceded in death by a brother: Ronald Bickert and also by a great-grandson: Mason Robert Bower.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 10 at 10 a.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg with Rev. Dr., Gary E. Weaver, officiating. Bob will be laid to rest next to his late wife in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
