Rita T. Scarpino , age 87, of Bloomsburg, died on Sunday, July 23, 2017, a patient of the Emmanuel Nursing Center in Danville. Rita was a resident of her home in Bloomsburg for over 50 years.
Rita was born on Wednesday, September 11, 1929 in Shenandoah, PA, a daughter of the late Anthony and Emily (Pahutsky) Jacobs. Throughout her younger years, Rita attended the Shenandoah area schools, and later graduated from J. W. Cooper High School, Shenandoah.
On August 22, 1953, Rita married her loving husband, Frank L. Scarpino formerly of Shenandoah. Rita was a member of the St. Columba Catholic Parish. She enjoyed spending her time crocheting and loved to pray the rosary. She also enjoyed patio parties with her family.
In addition to her parents and husband, Rita was also preceded in death by siblings: Joseph Jacobs, Henry Jacobs, Theresa Jackson, Eleanor Beddall, and Elsie Yodis.
Survivors include her children: Maria T. Evans (David) of Strongsville, OH; Lucille F. Lukas (Randy) of Bloomsburg, and Frank J. Scarpino (Shelley) of New Tripoli, PA; and 8 grandchildren. She was the last member of her immediate family.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, July 28, 2017 at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth Street from 5 to 7 pm. A Christian Wake service will be held at 6 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at St. Columba Catholic Church, Third at Iron St., Bloomsburg, at 10:00 am with Monsignor Robert E. Lawrence, celebrant. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Shenandoah . The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Scarpino family.
