Obituary

Richard B. Keyser, age 88, of Bloomsburg, died on Sunday afternoon, August 9, 2014 a patient of Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Richard had been a patient in Geisinger for the past two weeks, but battling health challenges for the past month.
Richard was born on Friday, November 13, 1925 in Main Township, a son of the late Leslie and Bird (Breisch) Keyser. Throughout his younger years, Richard attended and later graduated from the Bloomsburg High School in 1943. Shortly after his education, Richard enlisted with the United States Navy where he served his country faithfully as a Gunner's Mate with the Amphibious Forces in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After retiring home, he expanded his education by attending the former Bloomsburg State Teachers College where he graduated in 1950. On March 7, 1955, Richard married his loving wife, the former Joan Bucher.
For over 41 years, Richard was employed by the former Magee Carpet Company where he spent 16 years as the Personnel Director until his retirement in 1991. He was also a faithful member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Bloomsburg. He was a Life Member of the Bloomsburg Elks. B.P.O.E. #436, a member of the Fireman's Relief Association, the Washington Lodge #265 F&AM and the Caldwell Consistory. Richard also enjoyed spending time golfing as member of the Frosty Valley Country Club.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by four brothers: Charles Keyser, Lester Keyser, Donald Keyser and Dale Keyser; and also by three sisters: Louise Nelson, Jean Derr and Esther Loux. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years, Joan (Bucher) Keyser, of Bloomsburg; a daughter: Wendy Low of Bloomsburg; and a grandson: Nathan Low of Jamison City.
At the request of the family, a private family viewing will be held at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg. A Graveside committal service with Rev. Tammy Gessner, Spiritual Care Counselor of Geisinger Medical Center, officiating will be held in the New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc. is honored to be serving the Keyser family.
