Richard L. Houser, age 74, of 230 Crabapple Lane, Bloomsburg, died Friday, February 19, in the Bloomsburg Health Care Center were he resided for several weeks. Richard was born on Tuesday, November 26, 1935. He was the son of the late Max and Geraldine Houser Blair. Richard was a member of the Bloomsburg High School class of 1953. He was employed for 18 years at Magee Carpet Co. and afterward was self employed selling surplus tools across North Eastern Pennsylvania. During his retirement years he worked part time at Heller's Gas. As a member of Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, he was a choir member for many years, past President of the Church Consistory and had served as chairman of the Property Committee. He was a member of the Bloomsburg Bicentennial Choir and the Jubilate Choir. He was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed gardening, boating and motor cycle riding. After giving up skydiving he obtained his private pilot license and traveled extensively by airplane. He was active with Boy Scouting and was a past leader of the Boy Scout Senior Patrol Troop 28 of Espy. On October 6, 1955 Richard married Nancy Troy who survives. Also surviving are two sons: Morris R. Houser and wife Cynthia of Bloomsburg and Brian D. Houser and wife, Deborah also of Bloomsburg; a granddaughter: Christa D. Houser; four grandsons: Brandon M. Houser, Brian C. Houser, Corey M. Houser and Faustino Rivera and a half brother: Scott Erdman of Northumberland.
Friends and family will be received on Saturday, February 27 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, 260 East seventh St. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. with his pastor, Rev. Stephen D. Englehardt, officiating. Memorial contributions are suggested to Columbia Montour Home Hospice, 410 Glenn Ave. Suite 200, Bloomsburg.
