Rhona J. Wintersteen, 88, formerly of Catawissa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, with her daughters by her side. She was a resident of Viva Senior Living, Harrisburg.

Born in Catawissa on August 30, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Kimber and Margaret (Williams) Deeter. After graduating from Catawissa High School in 1955, she went on to marry the love of her life, the late Larry L. Wintersteen, who passed away February 22, 2020, after 64 beautiful years of marriage. Rhona was a member of the Catawissa First United Methodist church, where she served in various roles throughout the years. In addition to singing in the choir, she was the director of the junior choir and also the interim senior choir director. Later, she sang with the group known as “Women of Harmony.”Rhona participated in numerous choirs in surrounding communities. Rhona’s love of music really began with a family band called “The Sunshine Pals,” where she sang and played the accordion. She also sang with the “Honey Buns,” a girls’ vocal trio. Rhona found joy in sewing, a gift that she shared with students in the 4-H club. She also enjoyed square dancing with her husband as members of the Susque Country Squares, and later in life, teaching aerobics classes at her church.

What brought Rhona the most joy however, was being at home with her family. She adored being a homemaker, and while she worked part-time at the former Southside National Bank in Catawissa, her true passion was giving piano lessons at her home, which Rhona did for more than 30 years. She had a patient and encouraging spirit, and a true love for her students.

Surviving Rhona are her beloved daughters: Tami Morgan and husband, Craig, of Annville, Trudi Hoch and husband, Kevin, of Harrisburg; her grandchildren: Ashley Schade and husband, Andrew, Amy Parker, and husband, Michael, Alyse Morgan, Danielle Spataro, Justine Snyder and husband, Nathan, Tyler Hoch and wife, Deone, and Janelle Hoch; 13 great-grandchildren, and her brother, Errol Deeter of Catawissa, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, Larry L. Wintersteen, Rhona was preceded in death by two brothers, Haydn Thomas and Duane Deeter.

All are welcome to join Rhona’s family for her Celebration of Life, 11 AM Saturday, August 15, 2026 at Catawissa First United Methodist Church, 228 South Street, Catawissa, PA 17820. Pastor Susan Knorr will officiate. Friends will be received from 10 AM until the time of the service at 11 AM. Her interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
