Obituary

Raymond E. "Ray" Wood, age 84, of Orangeville, passed away on Friday morning, November 18, 2022, at the Bonham Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Stillwater. Ray was a resident of his home in Fishingcreek Township for over 35 years.

He was born on Sunday, June 26, 1938 in Benton, a son of the late D. Richard and Helen (Fritz) Wood. Ray graduated from the Benton High School in 1956, he faithfully served his country in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in January, 1963. On October 22, 1960, Ray married his loving wife the former, Sandra D. "Sandy" Beyer, who preceded him in death on October 21, 2021. He was employed by PPL as a Lineman until his retirement. Raymond will be remembered by his family as a devoted and beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend, gifted raconteur and sometimes, as someone who possessed the ornery stubbornness to rival a mule. He had a contagious laugh and loved to laugh almost as much as making others laugh.

Ray never met a dessert he didn't like and attributed his great spirit to working hard and eating everything one shouldn't eat. He was generous with his wisdom, especially to his grandchildren, which if followed may land one on the wrong side of the law. One could not talk to anyone who knew Ray without hearing stories about his humor or his horses. Ray was an accomplished horseman, and with Sandy took their many breeds owned, over their lives together and traveled back and forth across the country to join others for extended trail riding. He rode in parades, taught his children and grandchildren how to ride, did civic duty with the Columbia County Sheriff's Posse and rode competitively at the Benton Rodeo.

In addition to his parents and wife, Ray was also preceded in death by a sister, Judy Search, two brothers, James Wood and Albert Wood, and three brothers-in-law, Andrew Vansock, James Honse and Alton Eugene Diltz.

Survivors include his two beloved daughters, Kimberly Llanso and husband Peter of Orangeville, Kathleen Dove of Lightstreet, six grandchildren, Erin Beagle and husband Michael, Lauren Coombs and husband Ryan Windfeldt, Olivia Dove, Evan Llanso, Aaron Llanso and wife Madeline, Leah Llanso, a great-grandson, Tate Beagle, a great-granddaughter, Quinn Beagle, six siblings; Irma Jeanne Vansock, Elaine Honse, Mary Kline and Robert Marino, Richard Wood and wife Tina, Helen Rupert and husband Ray, Charles Wood and wife Dolly, two sisters-in-law, Sandy Wood and Mary Wood, a brother-in-law, Arthur Search, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the convenience of the family. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Wood family. The family would like to acknowledge the attentive and compassionate care provided to Raymond by the staff at Bonham Nursing Center and Geisinger Hospice.
