Obituary

Ralph W. "Joe" Remley, Jr., age 84, 197 E. 11th St., Bloomsburg, died Sunday, October 12 at Bloomsburg Health Care Center where he had been a resident since March. Joe had lived on E. 11th St. for 40 years.

Joe was born September 4, 1924 in Orangeville, the son of the late Ralph W. and Mabel P. (Bower) Remley. He attended Orangeville High School. During World War II he served with the U.S. Navy. Prior to his retirement in 1986, Joe was employed for over thirty years as an Electrician Refrigeration Tech at Bloomsburg University.

Joe was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church for over sixty years, where he had served for many years as a member of the Board of Trustees. Following retirement he served as the Church Janitor. He was formerly a member of the Columbia Montour Barbershoppers and was a member of Valley of Bloomsburg American Legion Post #283.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Velma P. (Stephens) Remley June 13, 1999; by a son: Stephen David Remley in 1951 and five brothers: Roy, Wilfred, Howard, Herbert and Donald Remley. He was the last member of his immediate family.

Survivors include: two daughters: Debra Taylor and her husband Les, Elysburg and Betsy Szpynda and her husband Gene, Berwick; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be Thursday, October 16 at 11 A.M. from the Allen Funeral Home, 745 Market at Eighth St., Bloomsburg with Mr. Todd Davis Layminister presiding. Friends will be received at the funeral home Wednesday from 6 – 8 P.M. and Thursday from 10 A.M. until time of service. Burial will be in Elan Memorial Park. There will be a combined VFW/Legion group providing military honors. The family will provide flowers.
