R. William "Bill" Johnson, age 89, of Bloomsburg, passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, a patient of the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Bill was a resident of Bloomsburg all of his life.
He was born on Sunday, July 7, 1929 in Bloomsburg, a son of the late John LaRay and Lillie M. (Carroll) Johnson. Throughout his younger years, Bill attended the Bloomsburg area schools, and later graduated from the Bloomsburg High School in 1948. He attended Bloomsburg State Teachers College. He was employed by Magee Carpet Company and Bloomsburg Carpet Industries, Inc. as a Carpet Designer until his retirement. Bill was a member of First English Baptist Church, Bloomsburg. He was an avid golfer, played baseball for the Magee Carpet Company team and was an excellent piano player. Bill was always there for family and friends whenever something was needed.
In addition to his parents, Bill was also preceded by three sisters, M. O'Dean Johnson, Hazel Hippenstiel, and Myrtle Myers, and two brothers, John Johnson, and Robert Johnson.
Survivors include two brothers, Harry Johnson and Thomas Johnson and his wife Frances all of Bloomsburg, several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, October 12, 2018 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at the First English Baptist Church in Bloomsburg.
Funeral Services will begin on Friday, October 12, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the First English Baptist Church, 700 Millville Road, Bloomsburg with Rev. Dr. Lee Barnhardt, officiating. Internment will be held privately at a later date. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Streets, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Johnson family.
