Phyllis (Hidlay) Meek, age 89, formerly of Bloomsburg and Jerseytown, died on Thursday morning, May 8, 2014 a resident of the Geisinger-Bloomsburg Health Care Center for the past eight years.
Phyllis was born on Wednesday, November 19, 1924 in Scott Township, a daughter of the late Raymond and Belva Lockwood (Tronsue) Hidlay. Throughout her younger years, Phyllis attended and later graduated from the former Scott High School in 1942. In addition to caring for her family, Phyllis also assisted her late husband Glen E. Long who passed in 1969; operate the family Service Station and Laundromat located on Old Berwick Road in Bloomsburg. For many years, she attended the Jerseytown United Methodist Church, and was also a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church Lamb Program.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her two husbands: Glen E. Long and John Meek. She was also preceded by two sons: Glen E. Long, Jr. in 1954 and Raymond Long in 1988; and four siblings: Paul Hidlay, Mary Catherine Hidlay, Earl Hidlay and Sara Hughes. Phyllis was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors include a son: Paul E. Long and wife, Susan, of Catawissa; a daughter: Glenda Kowalski and husband, Leon, of Bloomsburg; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday morning, May 12 from 10 to 11 a.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg
Funeral services will also begin on Monday morning, May 12 at 11 a.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., Bloomsburg, with Pastor Matthew R. Verstraeten of the Benton Waller United Methodist Church, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the Creveling Cemetery, Almedia. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Long family.
