Paul L. Showers, age 80, of 1914 Bloom Road, Danville, died on Sunday, January 24, at the Geisinger Medical Center. He was a resident of his home on Bloom Road since 1968. Paul was born Tuesday, December 10, 1929 in Canton, Ohio, a son of the late Robert and Emma (Whalen) Showers. He attended school in Rush Township. Paul served during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army Military Police.
Until his retirement in 1991, Paul was employed by Merck initially as a Chemical Operator and retired as a fireman. He was employed with Merck for 39 1/2 years. He was a member of the Bloomsburg Christian Church. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #40 in Danville. Paul was a former Boy Scout Leader, and an avid hunter, fisherman and camper. He enjoyed the beauty of the outdoors. Paul was married on December 24, 1951, to his wife of 58 years, Shirley R. (Wenrich) Showers. Also surviving are four children: Joyce Ortiz and husband, Rev. Dr. Benny of York, PA; Judy Pennington and husband, Ralph of Timberville, VA; Paul L. Showers, Jr. of Harrison Valley, PA; and Jane Burlingame and husband, Jeff of Berwick; 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Paul was the last remaining member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren; three brothers: Robert Showers, Chandler Showers and Walter Showers; and a sister: Caroline Phillips
Friends will be received on Wednesday, January 27 from 6 to 8 PM at the Allen Funeral Home, 745 Market at Eighth St., Bloomsburg, and Thursday from 10 AM until the time of service at the Bloomsburg Christian Church. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 28 at 11:00 AM from the Bloomsburg Christian Church located at 107 Deussen Drive, Bloomsburg, with Lead Minister, Eric Miller officiating. Burial will be held at the Glendale Cemetery in Middleburg with Military Honors. Memorial contributions are suggested to Bloomsburg Christian Church Building Fund, 107 Deussen Drive, Bloomsburg.
