Paul Merritt Cain Jr., age 93, of Mechanicsburg and formerly of Bloomsburg, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2026, a resident of Bethany Village, Mechanicsburg.
Mr. Cain was born on Friday, November 11, 1932 in Berwick, a son of the late Paul M. and Lois (Sharretts) Cain. He graduated from Berwick High School, Class of 1950, and continued his education at Bloomsburg State Teachers College before being drafted to serve in the United States Army. On November 1, 1957, Paul married his loving wife, the former Mary Catherine Cope, who preceded him in death on March 3, 2026. For more than 35 years, he was employed by Bell Telephone, having retired in 1990. He was a member of Lime Ridge New Hope Church, where he served on the Pastor-Parish Committee. Paul was also a member of the Washington Lodge #265 F&AM, Scottish Rite NMJ, Valley of Bloomsburg, Valley of Bloomsburg American Legion Post #273, and the NRA. Paul was an avid ham radio operator, handle WA3SVY. He was a man of many talents. In 1968, he built his own home. He was a naturally talented musician, playing clarinet in the Lime Ridge Band, as well as playing piano. He loved cars and enjoyed camping and watching Berwick and Penn State Football. Above all, Paul enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his beloved children: Barry D. Cain and wife, Sandra, of Camp Hill, Edwin R. Cain of Camp Hill, Paula D. Kerr of Sherwood, AR, Richard P. Cain and wife, Marcia, of Rochelle, VA; grandchildren: Alexander G. Cain and partner, Sarah, of Harrisburg, Catherine J. Kerr and partner, Scott, of Springfield, MO, Tyler D. Cain and wife, Emily, of Philadelphia, and Natalie J. Kerr of Springdale, AR; great grandsons: Jordan and Nolan Cain; sister: Barbara Dawn Cartwright of Elizabethtown; nephews: William Cain and wife, Debbie, and John Cain.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Mary Catherine (Cope) Cain and brother, John B. “Jack” Cain.
All are welcome to join Paul’s family for his Funeral Services 3 PM Friday, September 18, 2026 at Lime Ridge New Hope Church, 6665 2nd Street, Bloomsburg, with Pastor Vince Keister officiating. Friends will be received from 2 PM until the time of Masonic Funeral Services immediately preceding the 3 PM Funeral. Graveside committal services with Military Funeral Honors will immediately follow in Lime Ridge Methodist Cemetery. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Cain family.
