Patricia A. (McQuiston) McElhattan, age 77, of Bloomsburg, died on Wednesday evening, March 26, 2014 a patient of the Geisinger-Bloomsburg Hospital. Pat courageously battled cancer for the past six years and never showed weakness.
Pat was born on Sunday, June 14, 1936, in Franklin, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Kenneth and Viola (Nelson) McQuiston. Throughout her younger years, Pat attended the Emlenton High School where she graduated in 1954. Pat expanded her education by immediately attending the Butler County Memorial Hospital Nursing School where she received her nursing degree in 1957. For over 41 years, Pat was employed by the former Bloomsburg Hospital as a Registered Nurse, as well as a Nursing Supervisor, until her "retirement" in 2003. Pat continued to work for the Bloomsburg Hospital as a Nursing Supervisor for many years following her retirement. Pat was always regarded throughout the hospital community as a very competent, accomplished and compassionate nurse and supervisor. She was known for her staple of always wearing proudly the traditional white nurse uniform and cap throughout the halls of the hospital. She will be deeply missed by all of those who were gracious enough to know her. Pat was a member of the former Bloomsburg Hospital Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by two siblings, a brother: William McQuinston in 1994 and a sister in infancy: Jacqueline McQuinston.
Survivors include a daughter: Faith Hoffman and husband, Rodney, of Catawissa; two sons: Gregory McElhattan and wife, Terri, of Wapwallopen; and Christopher McElhattan of Charlotte, NC; and also a granddaughter: Gabriella McElhattan.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday evening, March 30 from 3 to 5 p.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the McElhattan family.
