Orest M. Garin, age 90, a resident of The Meadows at Maria Joseph Manor, Danville, died Saturday, July 9, in the Geisinger Medical Center. Mr. Garin was formerly a 47 year resident of Whitehouse Station, NJ.
Born on Friday, March 18, 1921 in New York City, Orest was a son of the late Charles and Louise Keller Garin. In 1939, he graduated from the Flushing High School, Flushing, NY. He studied engineering at the College of the City of NY and subsequently became an instructor of Army Air Corp pilots.
In 1942, he became a pilot for American Airlines from which he retired in 1981. In retirement, he was a member of the Grey Eagles Society and the Quiet Birdmen.
Orest is survived by a daughter: Orra Garin of Easton, PA. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Florence L. (Houser) Garin in 2008 and also by a daughter: Barbara Gerhard in 2002.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, July 13 at 11:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Maria Joseph Manor, Danville. The Garin family is being assisted by the Allen Funeral Home of 745 Market at Eighth St., Bloomsburg.
